Finish What You Started #330
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “Finish What You Started” countless times. It’s simple and it’s true, but why is it so hard to do? I can’t list the # of times I’m distracted by chance or by choice. I almost distract myself as much as things distract me. No wonder I struggle to finish what I started.
I’ve also heard Christians say they want to be like Jesus. Do they, though, even at the end? Think back to when you first accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior. You were on fire for him. You weren’t afraid to talk about Him, and you made drastic changes to your life. Today, your life is different than what it was before, but sadly, life’s distractions may have dwindled faith’s fire in you, making it hard to finish what you started.
In John 19, Jesus said, at the cross, “It is finished.” Now, I realize there are a lot of theological reasons for that statement; however, I’d like to believe that Jesus had a peace that we can’t understand because He knew that He had accomplished everything He was supposed to, and was going home. Think about that for a second. The world tried to beat Him and distract Him from his mission, but it didn’t work. He finished what He started.
Wouldn’t you like to have an unyielding joy on your last day, knowing that you accomplished all that God had you do, you kept following God’s will, and that you’re going home? Think about the peace you’d have. Also, how would you feel if the last words you heard were, “I’ll see you when I get home, too.” You would know that you played a part in their relationship with Christ, and that would be pure contentment. You see, I believe it’s possible that when you take your last breath, you’ll have a smile on your face that can’t be erased by death because it is finished.
Sure, there will be regrets about not finishing what we’ve started, but we can do something about that. In my bones, I feel that God has placed something on your heart that’s not finished yet. As long as there’s breath in your lungs, there’s time for you to lead your family like you’ve always wanted to. There’s still time to remedy broken relationships. There’s still time for you to take the leap of faith that’s calling you to jump. There’s still time to go above and beyond for someone else. There’s still time to show the love of Jesus to someone who needs it. There’s still time to reignite the flame that once burned inside of you. There’s still time for you to love God with your heart, soul, and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself. There’s still time to ask God what He needs you to do, but you have to do it, and do it now.
You’re not done yet, but the clock is ticking. It’s time to finish what you’ve started because people around you are waiting for you to start living your best legacy. They’re waiting for you to become who God’s called you to be, no holds barred. They’ll be better because of it. It’s time to finish what you started, or better yet, what He started in you. It’s my goal that when the day comes for me to say, “It is finished,” I’ll see the Lord standing there with arms wide open, saying, “Well done, Steve, my good and faithful servant, welcome home.” How about you, do you want to finish what you started?
